GAME RULES

Overview

In any given Premier League gameweek, you have to pick who you will be the man of the match in each the ten matches.

  • Players will earn performance points that are based on their on-the-ball actions.
  • The Man of the Match (MOTM) in each team will be the player who has the highest amount of performance points when during the whole tournament.
  • You have to pick who you think will be the MOTM in the 10 selected teams.
  • You can edit your team up to 3 times when the contest is live, but not after 15 minutes before KO in each individual game.
  • If you correctly predict all 10 MOTMs then you will win the £1,000,000 Jackpot Prize.
  • You will be ranked in real time on a leaderboard by the number of MOTMs you have selected.
  • In case of a tie, by the total performance points of your selected players.
  • The top 20 entries will win a cash prize.
  • There are also Spot Prizes for finishing in five pre-chosen places on the leaderboard.
Performance points

Throughout the weekend, players will be awarded performance points for their contribution during matches. These performance points have been rigorously tested to ensure that they accurately reflect how each player has performed in each game.

The players will be awarded performance points for the following on-the-ball events:

The Man of the Match (MOTM)

Every player in every match will be rated according to the above algorithm. At the end of the match, the player who has the most performance points will be the MOTM for that match.

If two players get the same number of performance points then the MOTM will be decided by which of the players has the highest of the following statistics:

  1. Goals
  2. Assists (Direct & Indirect)
  3. Saved Penalties
  4. Shots on Target
  5. Key Passes
  6. Successful Take-On
  7. Blocked Shots
  8. Interceptions
  9. Duels won
  10. GK actions
  11. Passes completed

If the players have the same number of statistic a, then it is decided by statistic b...

If all of the above statistics are tied, the player's surnames will be evaluated. The surnames will be arranged in alphabetical order and the player with the earliest name in the alphabet will be awarded as the MOTM.

Choose your players

You have to select who you think will be the best performing player in each of the 10 matches in a Premier League gameweek.

You can only choose one player from each of the 10 matches. You can only enter the contest once. Entries close 15 mins before Kick-Off in the first game in any given gameweek.

Check progress & make line-up changes

You can come back and check the progress of your 10 players at any time on matchboss.com.

You will be able to see, for each of your players selected:

  • Where that player ranks amongst other players in each match
  • How many performance points that player has
  • Whether that player is the MOTM in that match

You will be also to see:

  • Your position on the leaderboard
  • If you are currently in a position that will win a spot prize

You can also make up to three line-up changes:

  • You can change up to three players you have selected in your team
  • You can only change a player up to 15 minutes before kick-off in any individual match
  • After this window, you will no longer be allowed to make a line-up change for that match

3 ways to win

i) Match 10 (The JACKPOT)

If you predict all ten MOTMs correctly then you will be eligible for the £1,000,000 pool. If you are the only one to predict the ten MOTMs correctly then the £1,000,000 will be just for you!

ii) Top 20 (Cash Prizes)

Everyone who plays MatchBoss is entered into the leaderboard. Your position on the leaderboard is determined by;

  • Firstly how many MOTMs you have and
  • Secondly, the total performance points of your 10 players.

The top 20 finishing places will win a share of a cash prize pool.

Dead Heat Rules apply:

E.g.1: If Dave and Jim finish in joint 6th, then we will take the prize money for 6th and 7th and average it and award this to both Dave and Jim.

E.g.2: If we get 50 people finishing in joint 15th place, then we will take the prize money for positions 15th-20th and then divide this by 50 and share out accordingly.

iii) Spot Prizes

We will also be giving out Spot Prizes for finishing in any of five pre-chosen places on the leaderboard.

The spot prizes will be announced when the first contest opens.

All prizes are awarded and finalised after the final match the contest has finished. For information on the distribution of prizes please see our Terms & Conditions.

Opta Statistics Disclaimer

The calculation of points for scoring is based on information received from Opta Sports. All Customers signing up to and participating in the Contest recognise that the data feed may contain and be subject to human error, which may in turn affect the outcome of any MatchBoss contest. By signing up to the Website/Mobile Application all Customers accept that it is possible for the scoring on MatchBoss to contain inaccuracies.

Performance points will be allocated to players based on data provided by Opta Sports live in-match, as we receive the data. However, Performance Points for Players will be FINAL and locked in based on updated data provided by Opta Sports shortly after full-time in each match.

As a result, Performance Points allocated at full-time may differ from those that are FINAL and locked in, based on this updated data.

MatchBoss waits for this updated data from Opta after every game in the Contest is completed, so that Opta can correct any major errors in their data feeds as per their data-checking methodology. However, if no update is received from Opta Sports within an hour of full-time, the data received at full-time will be used to decide the Final Points and to decide the Contests. No alterations will be made to the points allocated or payouts awarded if the information from the data feed is subsequently amended or altered past this one hour window.

The data feed used in Matches and therefore the scoring for the Contests may vary significantly from scoring or information about the same Match on other media sources or outlets or betting sites. This is due to other media sources or outlets or betting sites using different data suppliers or processing the Opta data differently to the way MatchBoss does.

In some cases MatchBoss may have a different interpretation of the data that Opta provides than Opta themselves. In this case MatchBoss may process the raw Opta data feed in a different way to Opta themselves, meaning that certain data points may be different. One particular example where this is the case: Opta count Free Kicks, Goal Kicks, Goalkeeper Hoofs, Balls kicked out for fair play and kick-offs as passes and Squawka does not for our MatchBoss product. For clarity, both Squawka and Opta do not count Crosses, Throw-Ins or Keeper Throws as passes.

Results are final and no further data will be accepted or processed from Opta past one hour after the final whistle in any game. However, in some very extenuating circumstances, our systems may process Opta’s data incorrectly and we may as a result decide to change a player's score past this one hour mark. This will happen should we deem there to be a sufficient error that requires us to make a change so that we accurately reflect the data received from Opta.

Postponed⁄Cancelled Matches

If a match is postponed or cancelled at any time whilst a contest is live, it will only be considered part of the contest if it is re-scheduled to commence within 36 hours of the original start time and this is confirmed within 12 hours of the original start time.

In the event of a postponed game(s) that is(are) not rescheduled the contest will consist of the remaining fully completed matches and the leaderboard will reflect the number of MOTM’s correctly predicted and the points accrued over those completed matches.

If there are only nine fully completed matches in a gameweek any entrant that correctly predicts all nine MOTM’s will not receive the £1,000,000 Match 10 prize but will receive a consolation £500. If fewer than nine matches are fully completed there will be no Match 10 prize.

Prizes

There is no cash alternative to the non-cash prizes and unless agreed otherwise in writing, the prizes are non-refundable and non-transferable.

The Promoter reserves the right to substitute the prizes (or any part of them) for a prize of equivalent or greater monetary value if this is necessary for reasons beyond its control.

Winners will be required to verify (with evidence satisfactory to the Promoter) their age, identity, residence and other requested verification information before they are eligible to receive a prize. Any announcement on Squawka properties (TV, online etc.) is pending verification and is not final confirmation.

Entry into the Contest constitutes permission for Squawka Ltd to use the names and photographs of participants for publicity purposes at its discretion. All winners may be required to participate in such publicity as the Promoter reasonably requires.

Please allow a maximum of 45 days for prizes for payment and delivery of prizes.

Submission of entries

The Promoter does not accept responsibility for network, computer hardware or software failures of any kind, which may restrict or delay the sending or receipt of your entry. Under no circumstances can a user submit their entry via e-mail.

Limitation of Liability

Except in the case of death or personal injury arising from its negligence or in respect of fraud and so far as is permitted by law, the Promoter, Squawka and each of its associated companies and agents exclude responsibility and all liabilities arising from:

  • any postponement, cancellation, delay or changes to the prizes, promotions or relevant football fixtures beyond the Promoter's reasonable control;
  • any technical failures or unavailability of the MatchBoss website or other related platforms;
  • obvious errors or omissions relating to the awarding of prizes; or
  • for any act or default of any third party supplier including without limitation errors relating to fixtures and scoring data.

The terms and conditions of any third party supplier will apply to the prize where applicable.

If any provision or part-provision of these terms and conditions is or becomes invalid, illegal or unenforceable, it shall be deemed modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it valid, legal and enforceable. If such modification is not possible, the relevant provision or part-provision shall be deemed deleted. Any modification to, or deletion of, a provision or part-provision under this clause shall not affect the validity and enforceability of the rest of these terms and conditions.

Promoter

The Promoter's decision is final and legally binding on all entrants in relation to all aspects of the Promotion including (without limitation) allocation of the prizes and no correspondence will be entered into. Entries that do not comply in full with the Promotion's rules or terms and conditions will be disqualified and will not be eligible to receive any prizes.
